East Kilbride groups share £50,000 funding boost

Three East Kilbride community groups are to share £50,000 from the council’s new Local Action Fund.
Proposals made by local councillors in the East Kilbride South Ward were unanimously agreed by the council’s Executive Committee at its June meeting.
And as a result, East Kilbride and District Dementia Carers Group will be the recipients of £25,000.
Two foodbanks operating in the new town will also each receive a boost with £15,000 for Waist Not Want Not and £10,000 for Loaves and Fishes.
Funding for the investment is a result of the administration budget passed by the Council earlier this year, with an additional £50,000 allocated to each of the 20 council wards.
Councillors in each ward were asked to come up with proposals for how the Local Action Fund should be spent, with final decisions to be taken by the Executive Committee.
The first 13 of the 20 council wards were approved last month.
Council Leader Joe Fagan said: “The Local Action Fund is designed to help each community with projects that might not cost a lot of money but can have a lasting and worthwhile impact for everyone who lives there.
“Local councillors were able to gauge from their constituents where the money could be best spent, and I am delighted that we have agreement in 13 of the 20 council wards, with the others to follow in due course.
“The projects in East Kilbride South will bring significant benefit to those who need it most in the community and tackle head on some the biggest challenges being faced day-to-day by those who live there.”
The elected members for East Kilbride South, Ward 6, are Councillor Archie Buchanan, Councillor Matthew Buchanan and Councillor Geri Gray.
